The Roman Roads were a vital part of development in the Roman Empire. The Roman Roads had footpaths to the edge of each side of the road. It was permitted to walk, drive cattle, vehicles, or any kind of traffic along the roads. To make the roads the Romans used stones, broken stones mixed with cement and sand, cement mixed with broken tiles, curving stones so the water could drain, and on the top they used tightly packed paving stones. The roads are still used a millenium (1,000) later.
